Job Application Methods

QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful applicants:
• Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario or the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, in good standing in the Extended Class as an NP (adult) or NP (primary health care).
• Master’s degree in Nursing/Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP) or Masters of Science in Nursing with successful completion of a post Master’s Nurse Practitioner Diploma from a recognized school of graduate studies
• Prior experience in settings dealing with mental health issues or therapeutic interventions (> 3 Years).
• Current BLS or ACLS certification
• Current standard first aid certification and in-depth understanding of mental health first aid.
• Additional certifications or training in psychiatric nursing, mental health nursing, or related fields are an asset
• Must have completed, or be willing to enroll, Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PaT) training

Demonstrated ability to:
o engage with all patients as individuals in a respectful way, and foster open, inclusive, honest and compassionate relationships
o cultural competency, including Indigenous health cultural competency, and how to engage with all patients in a culturally safe way
o provide appropriate intervention in the case of adverse drug reactions and to address suspected drug overdoses
o provide appropriate response to medical emergencies other than adverse drug reactions
o deliver harm reduction drug consumption training for patients
o provide safety and security in response to aggressive or violent incidents

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for managing individual and group patient care by promoting and restoring the patient’s health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients and families; and supervising assigned team members as required. The Nurse Practitioner is supported by the in-house medical team consisting of general practitioners and psychiatrists.

Nurse Practitioners are fundamentally responsible for meeting the service expectations of our facility including but not limited to:

• adhering to implemented policies and procedures;
• observing infection control measures.
• conducting complete advanced, thorough, and focused physical and mental health assessments of patients seeking psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.
• developing personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs and goals, incorporating evidence-based practices and guidelines;
• monitoring patient progress during therapy sessions, assessing vital signs, mental state, and emotional well-being;
• prescribing, and administering medications and therapeutic interventions, generating and maintaining records;
• providing supportive care and interventions as needed to ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the psychedelic experience;
• collaborating closely with therapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure a multidisciplinary approach to treatment;
• participating in regular case conferences and team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment strategies, and any emerging issues or concerns;
• engaging in programs to promote community health;
• researching and critically evaluating evidence for best care available;
• integrating research into their work;
• serving as a resource and educator for other team members on topics related to psychedelic-assisted therapy, mental health, and holistic care practices;
• educating patients and their families about the potential benefits and risks of psychedelic-assisted therapy, addressing any questions or concerns they may have;
• offering resources and referrals for ongoing mental health support and community resources as needed;
• providing guidance and support to patients throughout the therapy process, helping them integrate their experiences and navigate any psychological or emotional challenges that arise;
• maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements; and
• ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and ethical standards governing the practice of nursing and psychedelic-assisted therapy.

RATE OF PAY:
$65/hr to $75/hr
