Integrating exercise therapy into interdisciplinary primary care: the costs and benefits
October 3, 2023 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
“Physical activity is a key health indicator and is vital in preventing and managing injury and chronic disease. Despite its enormous beneficial effects, primary care providers often lack the time or specialized knowledge to custom-design the exercise programming Ontarians may need, particularly those with chronic conditions that require unique, customized programs. Registered Kinesiologists, that provide exercise-based care, can fill that gap in multidisciplinary care teams. Through guided and tailored physical activity-based care, primary care teams can both improve patient outcomes and deliver cost savings, while easing the health human resources burden on primary care providers. In this session, we explore the costs and benefits of integrating exercise therapy into interdisciplinary primary care, and how Ontario – where Kinesiologists are a regulated profession – is well-positioned to be a leader in this field.”
