IUD Skills Workshop: Insertion, Pain Management and Trauma-Informed Care

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the impact of needs-based contraceptive counselling algorithms and be able to confidently use them in clinical practice.
  • Learn the step-wise insertion process for IUD, including pain management options and trauma-informed care tips. 
  • Identify suitable patients for IUD, and successfully respond to patient questions and concerns regarding the IUD insertion procedure.
Speaker: NP Lauren Scott

Lauren Scott is a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner at Women’s College Family Practice Health Centre. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto Master of Nursing and Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Global Health program.

She is an adjunct lecturer with the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto and a lecturer with The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Her primary care practice focuses on women’s health including antenatal care and pediatrics.

Her previous experience includes working as a nurse educator for the paediatric haematology-oncology program at the Sickkids Centre for Global Child Health.
