Celebrating National Nurse Practitioner Week 2024
As we come together to celebrate National Nurse Practitioner Week, NPAO would like to take a moment
to appreciate the dedication, compassion, and expertise of each of you and all Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
across Ontario. Your commitment to providing comprehensive, high-quality care makes a profound
difference in the lives of your patients and their families.
Each and every one of you is integral to Ontario’s healthcare system. In a time when our healthcare
system faces unprecedented challenges, you have shown incredible resilience, skill, and empathy. You
are fundamental to providing holistic, person-centered, and timely care that Ontarians rely on, in a
variety of settings including, but not limited to, hospitals, primary care, correction, clinics, and long-term
care.
Your role as NPs is essential in our struggling healthcare system. With our expanded scope of practice
and advanced education, we are equipped with both primary care and specialized knowledge. You
embody a unique blend of knowledge and compassion that is the heart of healthcare and your work is
necessary to ensure Ontarians across the province have access to the timely, high-quality care they
deserve. Thank you for your passion, perseverance, energy, and compassion.
This year, and every year, we celebrate your dedication, achievements, and your commitment to
patients. NPAO understands the challenges you face in your daily practice, along with your desire to
seek rewarding employment and equitable compensation. Please know that we have been working
diligently with multiple levels of government and other key stakeholders to advocate for flexible funding
models to better support your ability to provide excellence in care for all Ontarians. We are committed
to championing our cause to ensure that you are supported and that the many valuable contributions
you bring to our healthcare system are adequately and appropriately recognized.
On behalf of both us, the Board of Directors, and the NPAO team – including Impact – we want to thank
each of you for the difference you make and your significant contributions to the health and well-being
of Ontarians across the province. You and your work are directly responsible for reducing wait times for
care, visits to the Emergency Room, and hospital readmissions, alleviating many of the key pressures
faced by our healthcare system.
Let us take a moment to celebrate these achievements and all that you do every single day and all year
round! This week, and every week, we are proud to be Nurse Practitioners.
Happy Nurse Practitioner Week!
With sincere appreciation,
NP Barbara Bailey , President NPAO
Dr. NP Michelle Acorn, CEO NPAO
