Job Description

The Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) for the Urgent Care Clinic supports the vision, strategic direction, leadership, operational management and clinical practices at Markham Stouffville Hospital. The CPNP will work to full scope to practice within the interprofessional team model. They will provide patient consultation and assessments within the scope of primary care CPNP for patients from 0 up to 18 years of age. This role involves a strong leadership component with specific focus on initiative, communication, integration of care and follow up to help mitigate barriers to access for care and help deter ED visits. This role will include medical assessment, treatment and evaluation, education and health promotion, disease and injury prevention, acute medical treatment, and ability to make connections to the next level of care or follow up as required. The CPNP will need advanced knowledge and decision-making skills to provide a comprehensive health focused approach in meeting the needs of patients. The CPNP can work collaboratively with a team to determine next steps for patients in ensuring appropriate transitions in care and follow up. They will work collaboratively with the hospital physicians and community partners caring for patients in the community.

Job Requirements

Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent with clinical focus
Current certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN(EC) – Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP) or equivalent
Canadian Nurses Association certification in Paediatric Nursing – preferred
A member in good standing within the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario (NPAO)
A member in good standing within the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO)
NRP certification preferred upon applying but required within 3 months of starting
PALS certification preferred upon applying but required within 3 months of starting
Minimum 3 – 5 years of clinical nursing experience in paediatrics.
Demonstrated commitment to a patient/family centered care environment
Advanced knowledge, skill and decision making and expertise in primary care
Excellent physical assessment skills
Previous experience in a leadership role an asset
Superior interpersonal, communication, coaching and organization
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Meditech – preferred
Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
Demonstrated excellent attendance record with the ability to maintain the same standard
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
Evidence of ongoing professional development and continuing education
Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these standards
Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
