CEP Type 2 diabetes: non-insulin pharmacotherapy and providing care during COVID-19

- Description: This webinar will review a patient-centred approach to type 2 diabetes management and provide nurse practitioners with the necessary tools, skills and knowledge to enable the best possible care of patients living with type 2 diabetes during and beyond the COVID pandemic. Specifically, non-insulin pharmacotherapy, A1c targets and COVID-related changes to type 2 diabetes care will be discussed.
- Learning objectives:
– Describe recommendations and alternatives for providing care to
patients during COVID
– Identify resources and supports for type 2 diabetes patients during
COVID
– Characterize and apply the individualization of A1c targets
– Compare the benefits and harms for various non-insulin glycemic
control options
– Synthesize and apply knowledge within a patient-centred care
approach to treatment
- Speakers:
- Nicole Seymour BSCPHARM, PHARMD, ACPR, RPH
- Academic detailer, Centre for Effective Practice
- Nicole Seymour is currently working as an inpatient hospital pharmacist at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital in addition to her work as an academic detailer. She also works for the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy to coordinate student rotations in the London and surrounding region. She has experience as a clinical pharmacist with London Health Sciences Centre’s Acute Care of the Elderly, outpatient Nephrology and inpatient Mental Health programs. She has also worked with Thames Valley Family Health Team as a clinical pharmacist. Nicole obtained her pharmacy degree from the University of Waterloo and then went on to complete her hospital pharmacy residency at London Health Sciences Centre. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Waterloo.

- Academic detailer, Centre for Effective Practice
- Trish Rawn is a hospital pharmacist who currently practices at Mount Sinai hospital, in addition to her work as an academic detailer. She has extensive experience in hospital pharmacy, continuing education for health professionals, critical appraisal of health literature, medical writing, and patient health coaching programs. She is also a certified health coach specializing in health behaviour change. Trish obtained her pharmacy degree and later her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Toronto.
