Shining the light on Women’s heart and brain health risk factors: working with NPs to move the needle

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of women’s risk factors for heart conditions and stroke across the lifespan
  • Discuss barriers and challenges to preventative care or women in addressing risk factors
  • Explore opportunities for Nurse Practitioners to play a leading role in addressing the gaps

Speakers:

Dr. Patrice Lindsay is currently the Lead for PWLE Engagement and Stroke at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Dr. Lindsay has recently lead large strategic initiatives for health systems design and change for individuals with stroke, heart conditions and vascular cognitive impairment across Canada and internationally. She is a passionate champion for women’s heart and brain health, both in her work and based on her personal health experiences.  She is the senior editor for the Canadian Stroke Best Practice Guidelines and performance measurement standards.  She provides education and support for individuals with heart and brain conditions, their families and the health professionals who care for them as they navigate our complex health system while facing significant health challenges.  Dr. Lindsay received her nursing degree from the University of Western Ontario and her PhD at the University of Toronto.  She is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for her efforts to improve stroke care in Canada and globally.
