Award Description

Established in 2005 as NPAO’s most prestigious leadership award. This award recognizes the significant contributions of fellow Nurse Practitioner, Jerry Gerow to the profession. Jerry was a pioneer in NP practice in Ontario and to the Association as being one of the founding members. NPAO welcomes members to nominate an outstanding active member of NPAO who exemplifies strong leadership contributions to the organization as well as provides excellence in patient care. NPAO will provide a $500 grant to support post-graduate education or attendance at a national or international conference. This award is peer nomination and must be typewritten.

Award Eligibility

Currently an active member of NPAO
Actively employed as an NP
(1) Reference letter is provided (This must be filled out by someone other than the submitter

Award Criteria

(All criteria are of equal value in the selection process)

The Nominator will provide:

  1. Examples of current or past NPAO organizational leadership. Highlighting nominee’s involvement / contributions and describing how this is aligned with NPAO’s current vision and mission.
  2. Examples of how the nominee demonstrates excellence in clinical practice and is a role model to other NPs and the nursing profession.
  3. Examples of how the nominee contributes to the improvement of care for individuals, families and/or communities.
  4. Examples of how the nominee’s approach to health care uses effective communication to
    achieve high quality nursing and interprofessional care.
  5. Examples of how the nominee uses current research evidence to enhance quality of care (or is engaged in nursing research).
