Clinically Relevant Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion (CME Program)

This program will help clinicians identify and prevent drug-induced nutrient depletion (DIND) as a potential cause of medication side effects experienced by their patients. Ten cases focused on commonly prescribed medications will be presented for discussion during this interactive program.

Learning objectives – At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Define what drug-induced nutrient depletion is and recognize the related mechanisms and strategies for prevention.
• Define the adequate intake (AI), estimated average requirement (EAR) and recommended daily allowance (RDA) for nutrient intakes.
• Name three commonly prescribed medications associated with drug-induced nutrient depletion.
• Identify drug-induced nutrient depletion as a potential mechanism for clinically relevant medication side effects in three scenarios. This 1-credit-per-hour Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 1.5 Mainpro+ credits.
