Belleville Steps Up Doctor Recruitment Efforts

It’s become a big challenge for communities across the province, and Belleville is no exception when it comes to attracting family physicians, so city council approved spending an additional $50,000 for the 2019 physician recruitment program at its meeting Monday at city hall with the goal of recruiting two more family doctors in 2019.

“This municipality has contributed more than $10 million to healthcare, which is supposed to be a provincial issue rather than a municipal concern,” said Coun. Pat Culhane. “That is a good part of the reason why your taxes are higher than you would like them to be. It is out of dire necessity that we spend the money to provide the healthcare and it is essential that we get more family doctors.”
